I have been entering in a contest this month from fiberforall.org and it's purpose is to get the word out about FIOS and fiber technology. The contest is at http://fiberforall.org/fios-triple-play-bundle/ if you want to check all of this out.
Anyway, at first I was just entering to win. Then I started reading up on the fiber technology and realized that it really sucks that I don't have it! I called Verizon (my phone co.) but I live in an area that it is not offered in! WHY? Fiber technology is so much faster and cleaner. The fastest cable is still only 15% as fast as fiber! That is like a snail and a bird racing! Or to put it more techie, it is like we all still have really slow dial up. I asked the rep. at the phone company when I might be able to get FIOS, and it is undetermined at this point. At the rate technology jumps ahead these days, doesn't it make more sense to get the fastest lines out there everywhere now. Shouldn't they upgrade the lines to handle the way tv, internet and all phases of our life are moving. Everything we do these days is online or hooked up, and the best way to take care of all of our gadgets and keep us going smoothly would be with fiber. I have absolutely no education on these matters, but I know I like a fast connection and clear one. From what I can see it would benefit the company and the customers to change to fiber technology and Fios now and not later. I don't think anymore test areas are needed, just go ahead and expand now. We the small town people out in the boonies deserve a great and fast hook-up as much as any city dweller!
So how do we get this changed? Well blogging about it helps. And entering the contest will help too. The more people talking about fiber out there and posting about it will catch someones attention, and then maybe, like cable tv before, fiber will finally catch up with the homes and people of today. Could you imagine not being able to get cable or sattellite tv? Well a fast connection for internet is about the same. We run our phones over the net these days, so it is needed for that. We watch tv online too! It makes your head swim at the prospects it has, and the effect it could have on our society to be able to access fiber technology now and not later. Right now my mind is working faster than my fingers can to get the thoughts written down, and that is kind of like it is with cable vs. fiber. What wants to go just can't without the speed of fiber.
I hope you understood that, it made sense to me anyway.
So come on people! Jump on board or online and let's get the word out there. Bring us fiber for all! Thank you fiberforall.org for bringing this to our attention and starting the ball rolling.
